Day 16: Boadilla to Carrion de los Condes via Fromista

Faith in Noticing.

For every thousand pilgrims walking the Camino there are a thousand ways to do it. I am growing stronger in being more present, living in the moment and less future focused.

I have noticed that some pilgrims are missing so much in that they walk all day with earbuds in, listening to something, head down, not looking around at their environment and not even acknowledging any other pilgrim passing them by. I feel they are missing so much. While everyone has the right to do whatever they wish on their journey, I know for me I am noticing more. Here are a few things I have noticed:

This morning’s sunrise at the Canal de Castilla
A shell on the side of the road.
That the light hitting this alter is the setting sun.
I have noticed that the town of Fromista has honoured those who can not see. Just outside of the town there is an area where a certain bird can be seen and heard. There is signage but not in Spanish, English, French, etc., only in Braille (assuming Spanish). I think it’s wonderful that it’s just for them and we ‘sighted’ people are excluded, because I feel it’s a sign to them that they are special! It’s a testament that just because you have working eyes doesn’t mean you can see!
That a frozen treat makes a great lunch!
This town has a sheep crossing. However how do ewe know where to cross?
That there are a lot of walks here!

Today’s journey was good as the terrain was very flat with a slight hill near the end. From red pen to teal pen.

While I am on this journey doesn’t mean you can’t participate. What is one thing you notice tomorrow that you didn’t notice today?

  1. Fabulous post, Lawrence. I love what you’re noticing – and that you are present and walk with your senses open to the world around you – and that we get to share in what you’re noticing. DANKE!!!
