Day 25: Astorga to Foncebadon via Rabanal del Camino

After a great rest in Astorga my mind, body and spirit were raring to go.

Two hours of level walking and four hours of straight uphill walking and tomorrow with another 2 kilometres uphill and the first mountain will be done!

Me, before the climb!

I got to the end of map 23 at 10:30am and it was too early to stop so I continued on to map 24 and got a quarter of the way. A jump start on tomorrow. It is starting to get busier so it is time to start planning ahead and booking spots to rest. Don’t want to be caught on a mountain with no place to stay!

I am resting after this day of activity by soaking my feet in an outdoor bath and I was thinking that we don’t stop, enough! Yes I know we don’t walk for 6 hours a day, every day, but think about what you do during the average day?

Get up, get the family and yourself out the door, work all day, handle evening activities, get dinner ready, get everyone settled for the night and then finally you can stop by dropping into bed, just to repeat it all over again!

WHY?

I am thinking about what I did today. Since I began this journey I have reflected at the end of each day, which I have never really done before.

The ability and willingness to stop allows us to really appreciate ourselves.

I am lucky that I will be able to look back on this journey and remember so much of it.

When you look back on the past 30 days what will you remember?

We are all walking the Camino, whether here in Spain or going about our daily lives. Just don’t forget to reflect on what you have achieved today!

Best sign I saw at the end of today’s hike!

  1. I love your comments Lawrence, they are very thought provoking and what an amazing journey to take yourself on, I’m very impressed. BTW I’m reading your journey backwards which is very interesting as well, I started on Day 30 I believe and I’m now to Day 25, can’t wait to see your thoughts on Day 1 🙂
