Day 32: Castromaior to Melide via Palas de Rei

Today I finally got to use my rain gear; jacket and backpack cover.

First day of actual rain

Again the Camino stands up to prove that it provides in unexpected ways.

As I was walking this morning in the dark, I came across Kelly from Seattle Washington. I had my light but she didn’t have one and she asked if it would be okay to walk together? Without the moon it was really dark and with rain clouds it was even darker.

Of course let’s walk together and for 3 hours we had a great time talking about so many things and we have so many similar views. At one point I mentioned my lost shell and she gave me a perspective I never thought of.

I told her that I was meant to loose the shell so that I could learn the lesson that we don’t own things.

Her perspective was that I was done with the shell and didn’t need it anymore!

Plus someone is out there who will find it who needs it and it will guide them on their journey.

When we put things down it is at a time when we are done of that thing but that doesn’t mean that the thing is done of serving its purpose.

I wonder who will wear the shell! I was going to write ‘my shell’ but that is not appropriate. I did find a picture of it so I will always have a visual.

It was a good message. Like when we think about donating our stuff we no longer need (clothes, dishes, etc) they are still good and deserve to live on in someone else’s life.

The sidewalks in Melide are shells!

I know I mentioned about booking places to stay but right now I am just going to let the last 53 kilometres unfold as they are meant to. I will not set an alarm for when to wake up or when to leave or when to stop.

I am putting my faith in the journey. This has become a metaphor for living. We can’t plan it, we just have to live it; with all its beauty and flaws; all the disappointments and joys; all the laughter and tears. If we play it safe will we be safe?

I haven’t learned anything new. We all know this shit but life gets in the way of living it!

Okay enough about this heaviness.

This place is for sale!

A bridge over calm waters

Remember to keep the refrigerator door closed but always keep your eyes open! Food spoils and views are fleeting. A grocery store will always be available but what you see today may never happen again!
