Now that 2024 is ending it is time to take stock of what has transpired these 12 past months.

People have spoken! Regimes have changed! Wars continue to destroy lives! Our planet is crying out for us to stop! And sadly the rich are getting richer and the poor poorer!

Can we change any of this? YES we can.

Can we change any of this? NO we can’t.

One lesson I learned from walking the Camino de Santiago de Compostela was that change happens slowly! So be patient! Don’t give up hope! Be fearless! My word for 2025!

We are entering a new year which provides us with a clean slate to begin again. Time to put the past behind us; not forget it but put it behind us and be fearless as we move forward!

This year we said goodbye to our mother and I am so grateful that I was with her as she left us. I am in awe that she was a witness to so much: the birth of transatlantic flight, World War II, the race to the moon and Mars. She did so much and in her own way she was fearless, living life on her terms to the very end.

I think one of the lessons of 2024 for me was it is an honour and privilege to look after others but you need to care for yourself and then once you have the strength you can transfer that love and support to others. And be strong: it’s okay to say NO!

I am still struggling with being present, with being helpful, while also taking care of myself.
